Memory Foam is Too Soft to Support Your Back

Chiropractors tell us many patients ask about the difference in support and pain relief provided by lumbar support cushions made with molded foam versus those made with memory foam.

It’s a very good question. And the answer is, they are as different as night and day.

Memory foam (viscoelastic foam) feels soft to the touch and gives easily. When your back presses against a memory foam cushion, this foam quickly conforms to the shape of your back. The collapsing effect of memory foam provides no therapeutic support and often leads to spinal misalignment and more back pain. As memory foam further deteriorates over time, it becomes even softer, particularly in areas of tropical heat.

By contrast, high-resilience (HR) molded foam offers firm support with fast recovery to its initial shape after compression, which makes it ideal for use as a support cushion.

Bodyline partnered with one of the largest state-of-the-art custom polyurethane molders in North America to craft the proprietary foam shape for the Bodyline Back-Huggar® to our exact specifications. That foam shape was specifically designed by Bodyline’s founder, Dr. John Fiore, DC, to feature a unique shape that could support the spine both laterally and vertically,

This critical difference is why so many chiropractors confidently recommend the Back-Huggar – they know our secret is literally in our foam!
